Why Art Therapy?
Art Therapy has been shown to be helpful in making sense of difficulties and experiences which cannot always be put into words and finding new ways forward when problems seem hard to resolve.
Who is Art Therapy for?
Because Art Therapy is about using art for communication and self-expression, there is no need to have any previous experience or expertise in art.
Art Therapy is an effective therapy for all ages; adults and young people.
It can help towards achieving better lives by addressing:
- Anxiety and depression
- Trauma and grief
- Anger
- Life crises and changes
- Past experiences which affect daily life
- Ways to cope and have hope
- Achieving goals
- Self-knowledge and understanding
When Art Therapy sessions are planned for children
Parents and carers are consulted and communicated with before, during and at the end of a child’s therapy to ensure that it meets the child’s needs and that feedback from the therapy can guide the child and family going forward.
Family or parent-child sessions are other options which can also improve young people’s wellbeing and parent/family relationships. The Tree of life framework can be helpful for families wanting to work together.
Getting started with art therapy sessions – how often and for how long?
Art Therapy at Green Tree starts with an initial introductory session, which provides a chance to discuss your concerns and difficulties and what you would like to achieve and have an opportunity for an Art Therapy experience.
If you and the Art Therapist both feel that Art Therapy could be a useful way forward, you will be offered a block of three 50 minute sessions (once a week), followed by a review session where further sessions may be planned. Because everyone’s needs differ, some people may only need a short series of sessions, whereas for others, particularly when there are complex difficulties, a longer series of sessions may be recommended.
Online Art Therapy Sessions are £60 per session. We do operate a cancellation policy. This will be discussed further with you when booking your session. Online sessions – currently availability adults only.
