What is Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy which uses art to help communicate aspects and narratives of a person’s life to understand and resolve difficulties and improve wellbeing.

What is Art Therapy

Art Therapy has been shown to be helpful in making sense of difficulties and experiences which cannot always be put into words and finding new ways forward when problems seem hard to resolve.

Art Therapy is a recognised Allied Health Profession and Art Therapists are trained in psychotherapy and are required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and abide by their codes of professional practice and confidentiality.  Their professional organisation The British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) has further information about the profession and personal stories. www.baat.org

I hadn’t fully appreciated how I could share aspects of myself through art this has been rewarding and enlightening.

I don’t find it easy to tell me how I feel, my art therapy sessions helped me to do this with my pictures, this helped me feel comfortable.
